Description and learning objectives: The workshop’s goal is to provide medical professionals with an introduction to suicide safety planning. Developed in collaboration with a patient, a suicide safety plan can help prevent crises from escalating by providing a person with tangible self-help coping strategies, including determining who can be most helpful during a crisis. Knowing that people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts are more likely to reach out to their primary care provider for support first, rather than a mental health professional, it highlights the key role medical settings play in suicide prevention. In this workshop, providers will learn about the background of suicide safety plans, how they can be used, and will practice how to help a patient develop one. Intended for medical professionals and those working in health care settings in Alameda County, however all are welcome!
CE Information: At this time, CEs are available for nurses only: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP17897, for 1 contact hour. For those who work in Alameda County, CE certificates are free. For those who work outside of Alameda County, there is a $5 fee for CE certificates. Participants must stay for the entirety of the workshop to receive a certificate. The workshop is free to attend.
